This American actress and model grew up in a poor household with little money in New York. Her father Karsten Johansson is architect who comes from Copenhagen in Danmark originally. Her mother Melanie Sloan is member of an Ashkenazi Jewish family who comes from the Bronx. She has an older brother named Adrian and a older sister named Vanessa. She has also a twin brother named Hunter and an older half-brother Christian who's from her father's first marriage. Her ancestors were Jewish immigrants from both Poland and Minsk in the Russian Empire. Her parents divorced when she was 13 years old. Her paternal grandfather is screenwriter/director Ejner Johansson.

She studied at the Elementary School in Greenwich Village (Manhattan) together with her twin brother Hunter. She did theatrical training at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan, where she graduated in 2002. She was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in june 2004. She followed acting, singing and dancing lessons at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. She made plans to attend at the Purchase University in order to study film.

She made her action movie debut as Katie Armstrong who's the daughter of Harvard Law School professor and lawyer Paul Armstrong (played by Sean Connery) in ''Just Cause'' (1995). Bobby Earl Ferguson (played by Blair Underwood) is a black student who is innocently sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a schoolgirl. He waits in the Florida state prison for his death penalty. Bobby enlists the help of well-known lawyer Paul Armstrong, who is convinced of his innocence. He manages to reopen the file again with the freedom of Bobby as result.

She plays Ashley Parker who is the daughter of local sheriff Samantha Parker (played by Kari Wuhrer) in ''Eight Legged Freaks'' (2002). Mine engineer Chris McCormick (played by David Arquette) returns back to the economically depressed mining town Prosperity after a period of ten years. The town is so poor that the mayor decides to sell the mines to a chemical company, who use the abandoned mines as dumping ground for their toxic waste. The company has spilled chemical waste into the nearby river and the prosperity is soon overrun by enormous arachnids mutated into flesh-devouring beasts, with the size of vehicles. Chris McCormack and Sheriff Samantha mobilize an commando sqaud of townspeople in order to fight against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

She plays Jordan Two Delta in this story set in the 21 century, where the biggest part of the Earth is made uninhabitable by the people in ''The Island'' (2005). Lincoln Six Echo (played by Ewan McGregor) lives in a confined indoor community. This is the only place in the outside world where a sustaining life capable is. The people life on a idyllic island where the citizens are chosen by a live lottery. Lincoln and Jordan Two Delta are leaving their save place, in order to find the truth about outside world. 

She plays scientist Silken Floss who is also an femme fatale and innocent as complicit in the activities of the Octopus in ''The Spirit'' (2008). Gabriel Macht plays the lead role as Denny Colt alias The Spirit, a masked crime fighter who is active in the shadows of Central City, on a supernatural mission to keep the urban landscape safe. The Spirit fights against villains, whose search for immortality threatens an entire metropolis.

She plays highly trained spy Natasha Romanoff  in ''Iron Man 2'' (2010). Multi-billionaire and genius inventor Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) has revealed his identity as the mysterious Iron Man. She plays highly trained spy Natasha Romanoff who works as Black Widow for S.H.I.E.L.D. in ''Captain America: The Winter Soldier'' (2014). Director Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) is killed by the mysterious assassin the Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan). Captain America (played by Chris Evans) is branded as traitor by the organization, after his dubious subverted enemie warnings. He investigates the bottom of this deadly mystery while he flees. She plays the young woman Lucy who is forced to smuggle drugs on a horrible way in ''Lucy'' (2014). It was a simple job to deliver a mysterious briefcase to Mr. Jang (played by Min-sik Choi). She's caught up in a nightmarish deal, where she is captured and turned into a drug mule for a new and powerful synthetic drug. She carries a leaking bag inside her stomach while her body undergoes a unimaginable changes, that unlocks her mind's full potential 100%. The drug give her superhuman powers on a mysterious way, when the drugs comes in contact with her. She absorbs direct knowledge and is able to move objects with her ​​mind while she can not suffer pain. Lucy turns into a merciless warrior who wants to take revenge against her captors.

She plays highly trained spy Natasha Romanoff who works as Black Widow for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the third sequel ''Avengers: Age of Ultron'' (2015). The Avengers are threatened by several enemies, after S.H.I.E.L.D. is destroyed. Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) attempts to start a dormant self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence program named Ultron. His plan goes wrong when the program Ultron decides that humans are the main enemy. The Avengers get the ultimate test to destroy Ultron, as the fate of the planet hangs in  balance.
